Gold Price Per Gram in the UK

The per-gram price is the number the British gold trade actually runs on — scrap quotes, jewellers' offers and postal buyers all speak in £ per gram of a stated carat. Here is today's figure for every carat, converted from the live world price.

As of 17 September 2026, the price of pure gold in the UK is £103.06 per gram — £3,205 per troy ounce.

Converted at US$1 = £0.7432 (ECB reference rates, 2026-09-16). Spot itself is recorded from a live market feed every fifteen minutes.

Why grams rule the British trade

A hallmarked British piece announces its fineness — 375, 585, 750, 916 — so the only missing number is weight, and kitchen-counter arithmetic does the rest: weight in grams, times purity, times today's pure-gram price. The trade quotes per gram because its customers can check per gram. That transparency cuts both ways: a buyer quoting £-per-gram sounds precise, but the quote is meaningless until you know which carat it describes.

The ounce figure the news quotes describes the same metal — one troy ounce is 31.1035 grams — but almost nothing in a British jewellery box weighs an ounce. Gram pricing is human-scale pricing.

The 9ct trap in per-gram quotes

Because 9ct dominates British scrap, many UK buyers advertise a single headline “price per gram” that quietly means 9ct. If your bracelet is 18ct, its metal is worth twice as much per gram — an offer built on the 9ct rate would be roughly half what it should be. Always anchor a quote to a carat: the table above gives you today's honest per-gram figure for each one, and the calculator prices a whole piece in seconds.

From world spot to your gram

The chain is short and fully checkable: the world spot price per troy ounce, divided by 31.1035 to reach a pure gram, multiplied by the ECB's dated £ rate, then scaled by carat purity. Every step is printed on this site — the feed cadence, the conversion rate and its date — because a per-gram figure you cannot audit is just a claim. Questions people ask in the UK

What is a gram of 9ct gold worth today?
The live 9ct row is in the table above — 37.5% of the pure-gram price. That is melt value; a scrap buyer's offer will be a percentage of it, which is exactly the number to make them state.
Why do two UK buyers quote different prices per gram?
Three honest reasons — different carats assumed, different days' spot prices, different margins — and one less honest: a low anchor for unprepared sellers. Compare offers as percentages of the same melt value, never as raw £ figures.
Is the scrap price the same as the per-gram price here?
No — these are melt values, the metal's worth at spot. Scrap offers run below melt because refining, testing and margin come out of them. The gap between the two numbers is precisely what you are negotiating.
